Two years ago I had the opportunity to lead a session of 70 Montessori teachers at the American Montessori Society conference on the Spiritual Preparation of the Adult. Maria Montessori suggested in her writing that we need a kind of "gymnasium for the soul" to do this. So in our workshop we experienced together five practices, drawn from five different faith traditions that might be used to strengthen and prepare our souls to be with children, focusing on purification, humility, mindfulneess (observation), blessing, and communion.
That work is now available as an Occasional Paper. You might want to take a little time this month to try these practices, modify them to suit your needs and faith, and incorporate them into your prayer.
And please add your own best practices below.
