When you are in the atrium, are you sometimes baffled by some choices of material that children make, or how they work with it? You observe them carefully to find clues to the “why” behind children’s choices and responses. And when you think you have an idea, you tweak the material to see if the children will choose or respond differently. You continue this process of observation and adjusting until you are satisfied that the child’s needs are being met appropriately. This is the process of “action research” – something that you already do in the atrium. You are actively observing and adjusting according to your observations and documenting your observations and adjustments. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to analyze and share your work, so that the larger catechist community can benefit from your knowledge? Wouldn’t it be great not to have to figure out the puzzle that someone else already has? Wouldn’t it be great to have a database of such reports to go to when you are stuck?
Join us for a CARA (Catechist Action Research Alliance) course taught by Catherine Maresca, an experienced catechist and formation leader; and Gaby Gastelum, a catechist who seeks to share all her joy and wisdom with you in this endeavor.
